DMET started in October 2005 and will finish by October 2008.

The first half of the project is dedicated to the creation of a "body of knowledge" in the digital-music and music-education domains. Relevant knowledge concerning the "state of the art" has been collected, structured and compiled in the form of a synopsis. The possibilities to offer an officially accepted certificate have been evaluated; co-operation with other institutions is sought. Because the digital music market is subject to constant change, mechanisms and workflows are currently being introduced to keep the knowledge up-to-date.

The curriculum is drawn up in the second half of the project. After an extensive briefing to qualified trainers ("train the trainers"), individual marketing opportunities will be worked out by means of the manymusics.org download platform as the central training platform. This phase is accompanied by regular pilot workshops to test the curriculum and to obtain feedback from those attending, who are themselves mainly musicians and the managers of small labels.

The main aim of DMET is to integrate the curriculum into various European educational institutes and to trigger a certification process.

To increase the awareness for the problems of today’s music creators in a digital world and to demonstrate the need for such a curriculum in Europe, every partner should organise a conference concerned with the distribution of digital music.
